We Must Fight the Fear of the Future

Editorial illustration for El País article “We Must Fight the Fear of the Future,” created during the course Illustration for Press and Magazines II, taught by David Acevedo as part of the Online Master's in Editorial and Advertising Illustration at LaBASAD.

KEY WORDS: Future, Terror, Positivity, Uncertain, Utopia, Dystopia

After reading the article and identifying the key words, I concluded that the author emphasizes the importance of imagining utopian future scenarios, as a counterpoint to the constant pessimism reinforced by mainstream media and Hollywood narratives. Thus, my final sketches explored this contrast between utopia and dystopia.

In the final illustration, I used tarot as an analogy for the conscious act of choosing the best possible future—even if it’s just an illusion—amid the many darker paths that surround us. Therefore, it was important to preserve the visual space between the negative cards and the single positive one to emphasize that while all futures are possible, hope and positivity can be intentional choices.

Spots “Art in Movement”

This series of spots is the result of an exercise from Clara Iris’s class at LaBASAD. The concept, Museum + Politics, inspired me to explore the political nature of museums through a comedic lens, emphasizing how each person interprets the same space in their own unique and personal way.

ART + POLITICS = ART IN MOVEMENT

During the exercise, I experimented with various styles and compositions to find the perfect balance between the elements, while also simplifying each illustration without sacrificing the readability of the image.
